This weeks #TurntableTuesday is brought to you by Beach Boys “Pet Sounds”
Easily one of the most influential and best albums in music history, the Beach Boys reached a whole new level in terms of both composition and production for the time. They layered tracks upon tracks of vocals and instruments to create a richly symphonic sound. Conventional keyboards and guitars were combined with exotic touches of orchestrated strings, bicycle bells, buzzing organs, harpsichords, flutes, Theremin, Coke cans, barking dogs and more. This was the first time “non-traditional” instruments were being used in rock and roll. The stunning melodies, lyrical themes and spiritual quality of the material really vaulted Brian Wilson and the band as top innovators in rock music.
If you haven’t heard this album before, or haven’t heard it in a while, put it on and enjoy it with new ears.
